Here’s what successful contractors are saying about Sakai vibratory soil compactors and asphalt rollers in the field:

SV510TF – Holland, Inc. – Rockfield, Kentucky
Carroll Haynes, Foreman with Holland, Inc. of Rockfield, KY had this to say about his Sakai compactor: "Right now we’re using our SV510TF to compact up to 12" lifts of clay on a big church parking lot job in Bowling Green. Density spec is 95% and we’re making that in just two passes. We own this machine because it’s a good piece of equipment. It’s easy to operate and fuel economy with this Isuzu engine is great."

SW800s – Norris Asphalt Paving Co. – Ottumwa, Iowa
According to Brady Meldrem, President of Norris Asphalt Paving Co., Ottumwa, Iowa, "When you do SuperPave mixes, it’s imperative that you have a high frequency roller" like the two 4000 vpm Sakais in the Norris fleet. "Mix designs have changed and if density isn’t achieved, that can cost us $15,000 to $20,000 a day in penalties." Meldrem also likes Sakai’s fuel economy and uptime: "We probably save 10% in fuel costs and have very few repairs with the two Sakais.

SW850s – J.W. Conner & Sons, Inc. – Tampa, Florida
Don Conner, Jr. of J.W. Conner & Sons, Inc. of Tampa uses his new Sakai rollers to get density fast on tough Florida SuperPave mixes: "Before we bought the Sakai rollers, our course mixes were really difficult. We’ve gone to 4000 vpm and high amplitude settings. That seems to be working well for us and we have earned some bonuses." On their first project: "We used our new Sakai SW850 as the lead roller to help set a one-day company record of paving approximately 2700 tons of P401. And according to Paving Foreman Mark Pelon: "I’ve never gotten consistent density on the coarse SuperPave until we got the SW850s."

TS600Cs – Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. – Albuquerque, NM
Bob Wood of Albuquerque Asphalt bought two new Sakai TS600 Pneumatic-tired rollers for asphalt paving jobs on the city streets of Albuquerque. Here’s what Wood had to say about the Sakais: "Great machines! The versatility provided by the water ballast system allows us to use the same roller on state highway projects, new subdivision development and even parking lot applications. Density problems are virtually a thing of the past." In bonus/penalty situations, Albuquerque Asphalt avoided up to 50% pay reduction while reaching 95% density.

SV500, Two SV70Ds, SV70TF – Granite Contracting, LLC – Charlotte, NC
Oldies but Goodies. These four soil compactors have about 2000 hours a piece on them and Steve Cosper, President of Granite, is tickled to death with them: "We keep meticulous repair records on the equipment. We’ve owned the four machines for four years and our total repair cost is $28 for replacing four belts. The way the machines are designed, all the vibration is directed into the ground and not back through the frame, which contributes to machine longevity. The diesel engines fire every time. The overbuilt design leads to low maintenance costs. I’m tickled to death with the machines."

OMT, Inc. of Springfield, Georgia counts on their Sakai SV510T and SV510TB to achieve compaction on ash aggregate roadbase work.
The material is spread in 10" lifts and the compactor gets 98% density in five passes. Don Brabham, Team Leader claims "the SV510T does a faster and better job and produces a better finish on ash. The blade saves us wear and tear on other equipment. We’ve had one of the machines specially modified for this application and Sakai gave us excellent service, too."
